Home Groups

For Small Groups

Home Groups are Gateway’s exciting group paradigm. Have a look at the info on this page and get yourself into a home group! It’s a place to belong.

Why Home Groups?

Groups or teams began to form immediately on the Day of Pentecost as people devoted themselves to praying for one another, breaking bread together and serving others as a Christ-following community.

Acts 2:46-47

What is a Home Group?

It is a supportive, nurturing environment where people interact together over God’s word and build authentic relationships through life experiences, successes and struggles. As we connect and grow together, we model the bible’s “one another” principle by transforming our community.

What does a Home Group look like?

It is a group of between 4 and 10 people, including the leader and apprentice leader, who come together in someone’s home weekly, bi-weekly or monthly, as decided by the group, for a maximum of two hours per evening. The team is led by an identified facilitator.

How do I get involved?

Each person needs to sign up at the Home Groups table at the back of the auditorium. You can choose which team you would like to join by simply adding your name on the team leader’s sign-up list of your choice. This integration process is critical to getting people involved. If you are already connected to people because of a common interest, similar stages in life, or compatible personalities, then you could form a Home Group very easily and naturally. Ask us for details.

How do I get more information about Home Groups?

We are encouraging anyone who is interested in Home Groups to sign up at the Home Groups table and come to a Home Group orientation session that will be informative, interactive and fun. If you come you are not required to become a Home Group leader – this is just an opportunity for you to learn more about this exciting ministry.

What if I already have experience as a Home Group leader?

All Home Group leaders will be required to participate in an orientation session to enable them to understand the vision, purpose and process of the Home Groups, including their roles and responsibilities as team leaders.

Who do leaders contact with questions or concerns?

As part of our structure in developing Home Groups, each leader will be accountable to a coach that will shepherd the leader and his or her team.

What will we study at the Home Groups?

Leaders can choose from the following options:

  1. More to Chew On: Base your study on the talks (sermons) from the weekend services.
  2. Book a Course: Contact the church office to book a course which will be taught by the course teacher at your Home Group. View available courses here.
  3. Leader’s Choice: Contact the church office to sign out a video series or study series to go through with your team. View available study resources here.

What about being a host home for a Home Group?

There is an opportunity for people to be a host home for a Home Group. If you have the gift of hospitality and would like to open up your home, this is a great way to bless others and be a part of the Home Groups. A trained leader and apprentice will provide leadership to the team.
